WineLogic Advanced, CWP Certification Course

Enter the world of wine with this easy-to-understand immersive wine education course. WineLogic Advanced combines different schools of thought on the subject, taught in a ‘logical’ format to make learning about wine well rounded and enjoyable. Perfect for the wine aficionado wanting to impress your friends and feel comfortable ordering, purchasing and cellaring wine, or for the wine industry professional wishing to achieve accreditation and additional wine certifications. Certificates are issued for candidates passing the optional exam, with a frameable Certificate and Pin given to successful candidates after passing WineLogic Advanced, earning ‘Certified Wine Proficient’ (CWP) status.

Successful CWP graduates will gain an understanding of the principal wine regions of the world, be at ease with wine service and evaluation, understand food and wine pairing and the basics of winemaking. They will also be versed in reading bottle labels, wine lists, can identify major faults, gain cellaring skills and will be able to speak about wine with newfound confidence.

Note: This course offers a wealth of wine knowledge, and other schools on the subject retail for
$3000 or more.

Students in this program can expect to:

  • Learn how to evaluate wines in a format adaptable to various schools on the subject.
  • Understand the basics of what wine is, and how it is made.
  • Gain an understanding of Principal Regions and their wines.
  • Begin to decipher Wine Law principles.
  • Learn the basics of serving, proper storage, and cellaring.
  • Learn how to read wine labels for successful wine purchases.
  • Gain confidence in ordering and pairing wines.
  • Learn how to identify major, common faults.

Sommelier Bio:

Sharyn Kervyn de Volkaersbeke’ s professional career has been devoted to the wine industry, learning and sharing her knowledge with fellow enthusiasts. She is a diploma graduate with honors (dipWSET) through the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, their highest level and prerequisite to Master of Wine, a Certified Specialist of wine (CSW) through the Society of Wine Educators, Tastevin level member with the Dionysian Wine Society and Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS). She is also an International OIV and AWS Certified Wine Judge with Merit (CWJM), judging annually for competitions in America and Europe since 2010. Her competitions include: The Great American, Finger Lakes International, Texas International, OIV Competitions in France and Germany, and the prestigious International Wine Challenge (IWC) out of London, to name a few.

She opened the Getty Center Museum in Los Angeles as their Catering Director and has held wine director and general manager posts in California, where she was featured in LA Confidential, the Los Angeles Times and E Television for her work in the industry.

In New Jersey, she founded KdV Wine Services, offering commercial and private wine events, training, marketing and promotional services. Sharyn also teaches wine education courses she has written at area colleges, including Rutger’s University and Camden County College, as well as being a keynote speaker for international wine conferences around the country. Her wine courses have earned her membership into the prestigious Association of Wine Educators (AWE) out of London, and her wine lists consistently won ‘Best of’ Wine Spectator Awards as the Wine Director for The Capital Grille restaurants where she worked for 15 years. Sharyn currently Chairs a chapter she founded and serves on the national Wine Education Committee for AWS, where she serves as coordinator for the WineSmarts courses, and wrote and teaches WineSmarts II.
